Our Coaches

Derrick Peterson
Varsity Head Coach
Coach Peterson began as an assistant coach at Lakewood High School in 2009. Prior to coaching at Lakewood, coach Peterson was the head Junior Varsity coach at Alameda High School for 3 years. Coach Peterson was named the head coach following the 2009 season. Coach Peterson has been named Jeffco 5A coach of the year twice (2015 and 2016) and lead the team to its first League Championship in over 20 years in 2016. The program has reached the state tournament 4 times under Coach Peterson's leadership (2013, 2015, 2016, and 2018).
Coach Peterson attended the University of Northern Colorado where he received degrees in Applied Mathematics and Applied Physics with an emphasis in Mathematics. He received a minor in coaching and completed the secondary education program. Coach Peterson currently teaches high school math at Lakewood High School.

LHS Infield Coach
Coach B joined the LHS baseball program in 2011. He started as the level 3 head coach. Winning the Jeffco League Championship in his second year. Moved up to JV the following season. Coach B will be a varsity assistant this spring season and continue to be the program infield coach.
Coach Shotwell began as an assistant coach to the Level III program at Lakewood High School in 2013. Along with growing in the baseball program at Lakewood, Coach Shotwell has also coached football and began his teaching career at Lakewood. Coach Shotwell also heads the off season development program of our baseball players. Coach Shotwell has extended his knowledge of sports performance and development to other various programs at Lakewood. Coach Shotwell has a background, knowledge and passion for increasing the performance of not only the baseball players at Lakewood, but any and every athlete of Lakewood High School.
Coach Shotwell is a product of both the Jeffco baseball community along with the Colorado club baseball community. Coach Shotwell grew up in Ken Caryl and always traces his foundations as a student to his experiences at Stony Creek Elementary, Deer Creek Middle School, and Chatfield Senior High School. After playing through the South Jeffco Junior Baseball Association, Coach Shotwell continued his baseball career with both Chatfield and Slammers baseball, playing for Mark Holzemer, Clint Zavaras, Darryl Milne, Bill Martin, Billy Cassidy and Jordan Berge throughout his career with Slammers. Coach Shotwell had received a baseball and academic scholarship to attend Ottawa University. Coach Shotwell chose the opportunity to walk on and play baseball at Cochise College in Douglas, AZ along with fellow Lakewood coach, Jarret Belloni. Coach Shotwell chose to walk away from the game of baseball and finish his college career at Colorado State University in Fort Collins where he received his bachelors of science degree in Health and Exercise Science. Upon graduating from CSU, Coach Shotwell began his first year of coaching with Coach Belloni in the Spring of 2013 and is currently in his 5th year as a PE teacher at Lakewood High School.

Parker McCormick
Varsity Pitching Coach
Coach Cormack is in his first year coaching with Lakewood High School. He was a Lakewood High School graduate in 2014 and after playing under Coach Peterson, continued his playing career in Texas, at Trinity University. While he was at Trinity, he won a Division III national championship in 2016, and was a national runner-up in 2015. Coach Cormack has played all over the country, ranging from the Alaska Baseball League, the Texas Collegiate League, and the New England Collegiate Baseball League, and brings knowledge and skills learned from coaches and players all over the country back to Lakewood.
Coach Cormack received a degree in Engineering Science with a specialization in Mechanical Engineering while minoring in Physics and Mathematics at Trinity University. He worked as a project manager in the energy industry in Texas following his time at Trinity and has since returned to Colorado with a mission to provide financial literacy, resources, and education for businesses and families as a Wealth Management Advisor with CEDRUS in Littleton.

Nick Borjas
Head Junior Varsity Coach
Nick has been a coach for 15 years. Head coach for baseball, football and basketball teams. Head freshman football coach for Lakewood high school for two seasons. Assistant coach for Lakewood football three seasons. Head 15U baseball coach for two fall seasons. This will be my first season as head JV baseball coach. I’m excited for the season! Go Tigers!

Shawn Winn

Coach Shawn Winn graduated from Lakewood High School in 2018. He played two seasons with the Tigers up until his junior year. After high school, Shawn went on to pursue a music career with New York based label, 88rising Records where he works to create music with NYC based artists. After returning home to Colorado, Shawn decided to devote his time back to the program by coaching our Level 3 baseball team. This is his 5th season with the program. Coach Shawn loves Lakewood baseball and is ready to “Winn” some games!
